GREYHOUND RACING Another chance for Shady Havoc

By 808 SCHUMACHER In spite of her disappointing run when favourite for the South Island championship at the last meeting, Shady Havoc is expected to redeem herself in the Chief Zero Stakes for bitches at the Christchurch Greyhound Racing Club’s equalisator meeting on Saturday. Shady Havoc dropped away quickly when headed by the eventual South Island champion Rex Havoc, 200 m from the finish and was a distant sixth. It is unlikely that any runner will be able to match Shady Havoc’s early speed and if she establishes a big enough break in the early running, she will be difficult to catch. The black Planet bitch holds the track record of 32.245ecs over 540m —the distance of Saturday's race. Hobbs Galore ran a magnificent race for second in the South Island championship after trailing the field along the back straight. She had great speed and runs her races out strongly, but she still has a tendency to walk from the traps. A fast start and trouble-tree run at the first turn would make her the main threat to Shady Havoc.

Maxi Revs, which surprisingly failed to qualify for the South Island final, was an impressive winner at her previous start. She is sure to make her presence felt from box No. 2.

Moss-Key-Toe, a fine railing bitch and a determined finisher, might gain some of the stake even from the outside draw.

Miss Print, when at peak, is a classy chaser and she should prove best of the others, although Greek Goddess, which has done her recent racing in Australia, could upset.

An American, Mr Alton Hill, has donated a trophy for the pups and a good field will be chasing the first prize money of $lOO. The outstanding Old Hobbs youngster, Master McGrath, was the fastest of the heat qualifiers although only by O.lsec from Rythmic Wave and Roger the Lodger. The 340 m record of 19.36 sec held by Rex Havoc might be approached when several fine sprinters line up for the limit race. Desert Fox, a grand beginner, should set a hot pace from the inside box and strong challenges are likely near the finish from Domingo, Renown’s Pride, Silver Knight and Mikado.
