NZPA Kuala Lumpur' Malaysia will not partici- j pate in the 1978 Common-( wealth Games in Edmonton, j Canada, if New Zealand main-] tains sports relations with: South Africa and takes parti in the Games. Announcing this yesterday, I the Malaysia Minister of ■ (Trade and president of the Malaysian Olympic Council (Mr Hamzah Abu Samah) said Malaysia had not joined the Olympic Games boycott because it felt the situation did not justify it. | “Although we opposed the lapartheid policy, we could (not boycott it for we had to (consider the amount of money (spent by us and the sacrifices (made by our athletes for the Olympics, as well as the host countrv in organising it.” He emphasised that the participation of Asian countries in the Olympic Games did not mean they supported apartheid. |
