Plea to give direction
Soroptimists were entreated to hold fast to faith in the future and to help give [direction, by Mrs Joyce Mcdver. president of Sorop- . l.imist International of New Zealand South. Mrs Mclver was speaking at the organisation’s conference dinner, held recently in Invercargill. New Zealand was split down the middle on such matters as abortion, the All Black tour, racism, conservatism, women’s rights, nuclear power and permissiveness, she said. “Which side are you on?’’ she asked. Soroptimists should develop a greater awareness of[ the needs and lacks in thej world around them and “do soi 'ething about them.” The international women’s service organisation had more than 60,000 members in 1800 Soroptimist clubs in -17 countries. Members had influence, the voice and leadership potential to be a moral and .spiritual force in a troubled [world, she said. “Every Soroptimist hasj proven character, talents and a sense of responsibility,” Mrs Mclver said. “She has ■s< lething of value to contribute. Our job is to build. We must hold fast to hope and faith in the future and help to give it direction.”
