Bargains at car sale
The New Zealand Motor ; Corporation offered 25 cars from its Gloucester Street showroom for auction to reduce its stock of: second-hand vehicles—the first auction of its type in New Zealand, Mo-t of the cars were one or two years old, and brought from $2OOO to $5500. When the bidding finished. 14 of the car- had been sold, according to the auctioneer.! Mr C M. Robertson “This was the first time! an auction ha- been used as I a mean* of bulk disposal by a ar dealer,” Mr Robertson -aid He described b'dding as “surprisingly light,” withi most of the cars selling at‘ well below showroom prices. The sales manager of the; N.Z.M.C. (Mr J. Hay) said he, was pleased with the auction I despite the low prices some! cars fetched “Because of the popularity of new small cars, I we had more used cars than ’ we had space for,” he said, j “The price' were basically wholesale prices, and many of the cars were purchased by dealers for resale. We plan to hold similar auctions in | the future, depending on our stock.” The cars carried full warranties and the first Ifi cars were so:d to the highest bidder without regard to their market value. In other auctions yesterday . a iwo-bedroom house at 226 Main Road. Moncks Bay. was sold by Mr Robertson for $30,000. Government valuation on the house is $26,500. A three-bedroom house at 3 Gwynfa Avenue, Cashmere, was sold for $54,500 by MrM. H. McCrostie. The househas a Government valuation : of $52,600.
