Questions for P.M.

PA Wellington The Citizens’ Association for Racial Equality yesterday asked the Prime Minister (Mr Muldoon) to specify outside Parliament how many activities of C.A.R.E. could be said to remotely border on treason. In a statement issued yesterday the organisation’s secretary (Mr D. Wil-

liams) said that treason is a crime set out in Section 73 of the Crimes Act and it concerns:— 1. Killing, wounding or imprisoning the Queen, 2. Levying war against New Zealand, 3. Assisting an enemy at war with New Zealand, 4. Inciting or assisting an invasion of New Zealand, 5. Using force for the purpose of overthrowing the Government of New Zealand. The penalty for the offence is death. “Does Mr Muldoon seri-

ously suggest that members of C.A.R.E. are bordering on committing an offence for which the death penalty is mandatory? Which enemy of New Zealand are we assisting? Whose invasion of New Zealand are we inciting or assisting?” Mr Williams asked. "What we have done is to cut out and send abroad press clippings of statements by Mr Muldoon and other Government members. We have also sent abroad copies of statements we have issued in New Zealand,” he said.
