The second reading of the Electoral Amendment Bill was adjourned until August 25, on the motion of its sponsor. Mr J. L. Hunt, the Labour member for New Lynn. The annual report of the Nursing Council was presented.

Members tabled eight notices of motion, and Ministers answered 11 questions.

Until the evening meal adjournment, the House debated a motion by the Deputy Leader of the Opposition (Mr Tizard), on comments by the Egyptian Charge d’Affaires concerning international effects of the All Black tour.

When Parliament adjourned at 1.45 a.m. Thursday morning, it was discussing the Superannuation Schemes Bill. Urgency was reimposed at 7.30 p.m., and the debate continued.
