Wellperformed in wet ground and back to form at last when fair third last Saturday behind Cornelius and Happy William over 2030 m at Matamata. Previously fifth at Avondale. Could improve further. J. Grylls 2 6572 TOFFEE APPLE (7) 56. Bit hard to follow but showed better form last start when second, behind Kauere Lad over 2200 m at Avondale. Handles heavy ground well and suited by this class. R. Skelton 3 1902 WAITETI LASS (9) 56. Surprise winner three starts back over 1400 m at Te Awamutu. Meanwhile had two outs before running a good second behind MarebeMo over 1100 m at Levin on Wednesday. 4 0009 DAWN CREST (16) 55.5. Capable at best but has yet to offer much encouragement this time up after a fair spell. Faded and beat one last start over 1200 m at Avondale. On that will find this distance tough. B. Compton 5 6314 OCEAN MONARCH (2) i 55.5. Ran on solidly two ' starts back when winning an i intermediate 2000 m event at ' Avondale and shaped creditably when fourth behind Cornelius over 2030 m at Matamata last Saturday. Often runs on like a very useful stayer.

I. Douglas 6 6094 GALLERY (1) 55. Ran on for recent fourth in a high-weight at Te Rapa but after showing plenty of useful promise has been more than a little disappointing.

G. Barkla 7 7404 NELSON'S ORDER (4) $5. Finished distant fourth last start over 2200 m at Trentham last Saturday. Well beaten time before behind Cattle King at Trenthain after fourth over 2200 m behind Kandy King at Avondale. lias shown promise but is finding it hard to win.

W. Robinson 8 0398 TRICMIST (5) 55. Has produced some fair form occasionally. Last showed up when third behind St Crispian and Cuyler over 2000 m at Whangarei. Hard to fancy much in first start after a long spell. 10 4973 DIVINE CLOUD (14) 54.5. Best form in intermediate company has been verv useful including last-start third over 2000 m at Avondale. Last won C 4, 5,1600 m at Ellerslie. Has a fair chance in this company.

~ A D. Peake 11 0080 FAIR MONTANA (6) 54.5. Right out of form and impossible to fancy on latest showings. Beat only a handful home last Saturday over 2030 m at Matamata. Needs to improve very considerably.

Most recent deviously no better. 13 0080 BONNIE AVON (10> 54 Unplaced in half a dozen or ( ’ l 'ring the first naif of the season and has done no better in her fewstarts since Christmas. Win 13 i be a bifl surprise. 14 0079 GREYSUN (3) 54. Showing pace but not sufficient stamina. Faded from the lead to finish ninth over 2030 m at Matamata last Saturday and previously weakened over 2000 m at Avondale. Not on those showings. K. Reggett

15 0600 KERRIBEE (13) 54 Looked promising through intermediate classes last winter but has failed to come up this year. Last-start tenth behind Cornelius last Saturday, seemed hardly encouragC. Brierley 16 0006 SWAGMAN (15) 54. Not racing well enough. Laststart sixth was at Wanganui over 2060 m. Has failed to pay a dividend in a dozen starts this season. Scratched: Attain (11). 3.45 p.m.— FLYING HANDICAP $2220; 1200 m 1 0 PRINCESS PATRICE (3) 55 Fine filly last season before losing form toward the finish. Has not started since well beaten over 1400 m at Trentham in September. Worth watching hut after such a spell might be too much to expect. K. Reggett 2 2835 SABRE PRINCE (13) 55. Very capable in winter ground and racing as though he could soon win again. Fin , ished second over 1200 m at, the Great Northern meeting; and third tw.o starts back! over 1200 m at Avondale Pretty certain to be prominent. 3 1477 ATHELLO (5) 8 54. t. n Smart and in first race after a fair spell is one worth some at tention. Last won bark in September on this course and over this distance. W. Robinson 5 5704 MOON ROCK (16) 53. Sp'eedv and one to consider) on his home track. Faded; from pacemaking last start, over 1400 m at Te Awamutu; but has had a chance to freshen. Almost certain to be verv prominent. R. Taylor 6 8043 BATTLE FURY (8) 51.5 Showed tons of promise' when a tw o-year-old but form l through this season not nearly as good although his last-start third over 1200 m at’ Avondale was encouraging.! Back to his best would takei some beating. D. Peake 7 5439 INDIAN COUNT (2) 51.5 Showed some promise again when third two starts back; behind Dumar over 1600 m; during the Great Northern meeting but well beaten j meanwhile over 1600 m at Te Awamutu. Has won on this, course and capable in heavy; ground 8 05 ARABESQUE (14) 51 Looked good towards the end of last winter and showed some promise again last time. In second race after a spell, when about mid-field, over 1200 m at Avondale. Likely to have improved further. Worth attention. R Skelton 9 5550 DANNY ROYAL (11) 51. Once promising but has failed to come up to expectations. Faded and beat only one last Saturday over 1100 m at Matamata in first start after a fair spell. Could be expected to need more racing. 10 0857 DIAMOND DOLLARS (6) 51. Managed fair fifth two starts back at Rotorua in May but form over all not too encouraging. Managed a couple of second placings last spring but otherwise has done nothing worthwhile this season. 11 7606 ENSIGN (9) 51. Has always had speed but seldom sufficient staying ability. Weakened last time over 1400 m at Avondale and this is not likely to prove any easier even though shorter. • 12 0900 HI SURGE (15) 51. Hardly a chance on latest! form. Drifted and finished! last at his most recent attempt at Tauranga. A win! already on the course just about the only recommends tion. 13 6108 PRINCE NOVELLO () 51. j Smart winter galloper at best; and a winner this course and’ distance late May. Failures'
