Student had bad heart

Tuan Sin Ewe. the Malaysian student who died in Christchurch last week, died because of a congenital heart defect, and not because of complications from influenza. Two pathologists who examined his body said they were surprised he had lived as long as he had. Meanwhile, the money collected to send Tuan Sin’s body home has greatly exceeded the amount required. More than $2300 has been raised, but the cost of transporting the body to Singapore is about SSS0 —less than

expected. There may be additional expenses in getting Tuan Sin’s body to his parents and for the burial, however.

Mr E. M. Molloy, who is arranging to have the body flown to Singapore, says any surplus money will probably go to Tuan Sin’s father. Papanui High School is to have a collection today, but the headmaster (Mr E. Fancy) said that because the target had been exceeded he “would not be pushing the collection.”

“We will give the pupils

the opportunity to give monev if they want to,” he said.
