\ll missionaries in the e rthquake-stricken area of Iran Java, the Indonesiancontrolled area adjacent to Papua New Guinea, are safe, according to a cable from New Guinea. There were fears for the safety of at least two New Zealanders in the 1800 m hill station of Koropurn. The town was shaken by an earthquake on June 26 which badly damaged property in the area, and a more serious shake two davs later mav have killed more than 9000 persons. One of the New Zealanders, Mrs Judith McLeay, was in the region with her husband, Bruce, and their baby daughter. She had written to her mother, Mrs B. M. Royds of Rangiora.

after the first earthquake but there had been no neu s of them after the second. It was thought that the McLeays were with the Regions Beyond Mission Union, an American organisation, but Mrs Royds said that she did not know how to obtain information on her daughter's safety. Her daughter had said that food was scarce after the first tremor and that many neople had caught influenza.

A groun from the Open Brethren Church last week cabled the Missionary Aviation Fellowship's base al Wework for news of the McLeay family. The M.A.F. replied that all missionaries in Ihe region were safe and well.
