Floods get worse

NZPA New Delhi The flood situation in eastern India worsened as the Brahamputra and its tributaries continued to rise alarmingly, submerging vast areas of Assam, killing 47 and making 150,000 homeless.

Reports said that all the rivers in the area flowed above the red danger mark, resulting in disruption of road communications in the districts of Cachar, Sibsagar and Lakhimpur. Relief operations had been continuing on a military like scale in the state which has been almost continuously under floods for nearly a month.
