More liaison urged

There should be more liaison on soil conservation between the University of Canterbury and the North Canterbury Catchment Board, said the board’s chairman (Dr W. R. Holmes). Dr Holmes was commenting on a decision of the board to employ Mr S. A. Grallelis, a degree student at the university’s School of Forestry, to help the board during the university vacation with planning the reestablishment of the board’s plantations, and in the use of its land on the north bank of the Waimakariri River. Dr Holmes said the board should retain good relations with the School of Forestry, and he would only wish that this could be extended to soil-conservation work. He had been on the board for 14 years, in which time the university’s liaison on soi l conservation left a lot to b desired.
