Canon “official” 35mm camera for Olympics

Around the world one international camera company is gearing up for its role as the official 35mnr camera at the 1976 Olympic Games in Montreal.

Canon has been designated official Montreal

Olympic SLR manufacturer, and all photographic records of the games wiHbe made with its equipment.

The United States branch of the company will operate a full-scale service centre — the only service facility within the Olympic site — to handle repairs for the several

hundred authorised photographers who will be there. “Being official SLR presents my company with a great opportunity in terms of international public relations,” says Mr Seiichi Takikawa, president of Canon U.S.A., Inc. T w e n t y-five official Olympic photographers appointed by C.0.J.0 — an Olympic organising committee — will record the games using this 35mm equipment. Drawn from various news and wire services, these 25

professionals will have special access to the field where the athletic competitions are taking place. In return for having access to all events the official photographers will make their photographs available to C.0.J.0.

Canon will supply the official photographers —

plus . the Canon-users among the approximately 400 accredited camera people at the Olympics —

with a professional apparel kit, containing specially designed Olympic jackets, hats, T-shirts, and other items. At the same time the company will handle all servicing of equipment for the photographers through its on-site, in-stadium service centre. To ensure the best possible service Canon’s U.S. branch is consulting with experienced professionals throughout the world so as to be able to provide the ultimate in convenient, streamlined service.
