N.Z. yacht ends race

[PA Wellington ; The New Zealand yachts|man Captain John Mansell, jof Wellington, has completed the “Observer” single-handed transatlantic race, according to advice received yesterday. Captain Mansell, skipper of the Aramoana, arrived at Newport Rhode Island, on Saturday. His boat, Innovator of Mana, was the thirty-fifth to arrive, but was twenty-first in the Jester class in which it was sailing. He was twelfth over all on handicap. Captain Mansell had hoped to make the crossing in 35 days and he almost did — he took 354 days. His boat was becalmed for five days, hove to for one day and logged 4000 miles.
