20 Chch players in youth orchestra
Twenty young Christchurch musicians have been selected to play with the National Vouth Orchestra this year. Sue Thompson, of Christchurch. is leader of the first violins. Jane Thompson, also selected, said that Christchurch provided the second largest contingent of players, Auckland the first, and Wellington the third. The orchestra’s 75 players will assemble in Auckland in the August holidays for a course and concert. Three hundred, young persons, aged from 17 to 23. applied for positions. Those accepted include:— Christchurch Violins: Margaret Baker, Ruthchen Evans, Jennie Goldstein, Susan-Jane Higgs. Martin Lamb, Catherine Mountfort, Susan Thompson. Viola: Al' air Sands. Cellos: Gaye Hadcroft. Brigid O'Meeghan. Double basses: Adrienne Taylor, Jane Thompson. Flute and piccolo: Heather McLeod. Oboe: Catherine Gibson. Bassoon: Timothy Geller. Horn: Nicholas Lyttle. John Ure. Percussion: Jane Shirley. Marise White. Tuba: Ken Young. Nelson Viola: Peter Rainey. Mary Allison, Christine Foote, Warren Wiggins.
