PA Auckland The All Blacks will go to South Africa next week with strong support from the New Zealand public. This result emerges from a nation-wide public opinion survey covering 2400 randomly selected people 15 years of age and over, conducted by the National Research Bureau in late May. Among both sexes, in all age groups, and in all geographical locations, support for the rugby tour is considerably in excess of opposition.
Answers to the question, “Do you want the All Blacks I to tour South Africa this) year” were:—Yes, 61 per cent; no. 22 per cent; don’t) know, 17 per cent. Support is stronger among) men (64 per cent) than I women (57 per cent), and decreases with increasing age from 67 per cent among 15-24-year-oids to 56 per cent among 55-year-olds and over. Within geographical locations, support for the tour is I strongest in the Auckland) provincial area (69 per cent) and weakest in Christchurch City (43 per cent), where opposition and uncertainty are; highest at 31 per cent and 26 per cent respectively. 1
