Box 5001, Mount Maunganui. 2977 NEW ZEALAND AID PROGRAMME: THAILAND LIVESTOCK RESEARCH ADVISER A VACANCY is available as member of a New Zealand agricultural team assisting the Royal Thai Government on a Pasture and Livestock production project in North East Thailand. The Livestock Research Advisor would assist the Livestock Development Department to establish an expanded programme of research at is breeding stations in the North-east. Priority areas for research include: — breed evaluation with initial emphasis on Brahman; — progeny testing programmes including a data collection system. — nutrition, including mineral supplementation and the feeding of crop residues such as kenaf leaves, rice husks and locally grown supplements such as cassava and soya bean meal: — husbandry practices such as calving times, weaning and night yarding; and — animal health including the effects and control of internal and external parasites, and in fertility diseases. He would also advise and assist in the preparation of annual work programmes for the breeding stations and their co-ordination into an overall regional programme. Base of operations would be the Tha Phra Breeding Station near Khon Kaen. The successful candidate should have at least five years experience with a research organisation engaged in tropical livestock research, and should have conducted or directed substantive work with : Brahman cattle. Experience in a developing country i would be a significant advantage. He would be expected to travel among breeding stations in the Northeast.
