Aust. road toll puzzle
The Australian road toll for the year continues to remain below last year’s figures, and road safety experts are not sure why this is so. This year 1238 people had died on Australian roads, compared with 1325 for the same period last year. Road safety officials say that fine weather at peak periods and holiday weekends has helped the road toll in the eastern states, but they think that safety campaigns; better cars and greater use of seat belts have helped as well.
