Hard ground suits young ploughman
Experience of ploughing very hard ground stood a young Bien heim ploughman in good stead when lie competed in a qualifying event lor the national plough ing championship at Chertsey. Competing at the annual match run by the ilakaia Ploughing Association. R. Jordan won the-qualifying-event by 10 points. Fourteen competitors started in the event: one of them. \V. Winter (West Eyreton), withdrew because his tractor could not pull the plough. Winter, however, has qualified for the championship at Blenheim on July 2 and 3. He entered the Chertsex event for its competitive value. Jordan’s work, in spite of the state ol the ground, was described by tiie judges as excellent. Jordan, aged 21 has been ploughing in open events lor just over two seasons. But this is the first time lie has qualified for the national final.
