Dog drug gives man dermatitis
A man employed as a dog doser by the Paparua County Council has contracted dermatitis through working with a drug used in the prevention of hydatids. The man has been employed by the council for the last two years. Since January dermatitis has broken out on his face after he has dosed dogs for hydatids. His skin improved at week-ends and deteriorated after resuming work with the drug during the week.
The chief hydatids control officer (Mr C. P. Catchpole) told the Paparua council’s finance committee that the man had been given other work until a new drug for dogdosing was introduced. Mr Catchpole said that other hydatids-control men in New Zealand had been affected by the drug. Two new drugs were now available and they would be used once thev were approved by the Animal Health Remedies Board in about two months.
