CROCODILE ATTACKS WOMAN

(N.Z. Press Assn— Copyright) tDERBY, Western Australia.

A 54-year-old woman is recovering in hospital after an underwater escape from ,the jaws of a 15ft crocodile. The woman, Mrs Platner Chudualla, was grabbed by the crocodile while fishing near her home eight days ago at the Kalumburu Aboriginal Mission, op the state’s far north-west coast. Her right forearm and thigh were crushed by the snapping jaws of the crocodile, which dragged her for about 50yd before she managed to break free and swim back to shore. Police said Mrs Chudualla was rescued by other fishermen. given first aid at the Kalumburu station and eventually taken to Derby, where doctors say she will have to spend another two months in hospital. Constable Lawrence Bradley said he was amazed by Mrs Chudualla’s miraculous escape because “once big crocodiles get hold of people they don’t usually let go.”
