Situation: A complex trough of low pressure over the Tasman Sea is moving on to New Zealand. Forecast: Marlborough, Nelson: Northwesterlies, mainly moderate but becoming fresh or strong about the Sounds. Mainly cloudy with some rain developing about the Nelson ranges in the afternoon but more general rain spreading east during the evening. Moderate temperatures. Buller, Westland: Northerlies strong in the south but
moderate variable winds elsewhere. Cloudy with further rain in the south spreading north to remaining areas this morning. Moderate temperatures. Canterbury: Moderate northeasterlies about the coast. Fresh north-westerlies inland. Rain in the Alps but elsewhere fine weather although with increasing
cloud. Mild this afternoon. Outlook: Mainly fair with a few showers in the west in Marlborough and Nelson, Cold showery southwesterlies in Buller and Westland, developing to Canterbury.
