Youth leadership

Sir, — Miss V. Buck is a city councillor and re-elected Labour Party Youth Council representative. She has advocated extended hours for a night-club, pictures on Good Friday, and a remit (“The Press”, May 12) on an unsuitable topic for a youth representative. If youth is helped by representation it will be through decisions against its harmful- involvement with drink, drugs, sex and crime, frequently inter-related. • There is a great need for youth to lead youth. However, youth must realise that because it wants something it is not necessarily good for it. Youth workers’ goals are for healthy development of the physical, mental, social and spiritual being. We live in a Christian society but unfortunately we see declining adherence to Christian principles. One can not lead by running with the hares and hunting with the hounds. Leadership must be motivated by the desire to reach the highest goals. — Yours, etc. A. LE CREN. May 17, 1976.
