N.Z. loses squash

(N.Z.P. A. Reuter—Copyright) SOLIHULL. New Zealand’s chances of making the final four in the world amateur teams squash championship in London — already slim after the team lost to Pakistan in the first round — receded altogether after a 3-0 loss to Britain on Saturday night. Britain, which is unbeaten and thrashed Pakistan, 3-0, earlier in the tournament, is now certain to fill first place in Pool B and contest the final with the second-placed team — probably Pakistan — and the top two teams from the other pool. The only New Zealand player to meet with any success against his opponent was the 25-year-old Aucklander, Trevor Colyer, who took the first game, 9*7, against P. Courtney before losing the next three, 2-9, 2-9, 3-9. The other New Zealanders both lost in straight games. Phil Ayton beat Neven Barbour, 9-4, 9-7, 9-6 and J- Leslie beat Bruce Brownlee, 10-8, 9-5, 9-1. Results of other games were: Canada 3, Kuwait 0; Sweden 3, United States 0; Egypt 3, India 0.
