Mt Albert wins cycling

Battling with strong winds and heavy rain squalls, Mount Albert Grammar School, Auckland, showed superb stamina in winning the ninth annual road cycling competition for the Sir Bernard Fergusson Trophy at Levin on Saturday. The team captain, lan Richards, is a brother of Olympic cyclist Jamie, now training in Europe. and (Michael, who is also in Eurjope preparing for the junior, world championships. The Auckland team’s time of 24min 7sec was excellent for the tough conditions. The record time of 22.12 (for the 10-mile course was (set last year by Shirley Boys [High. Christchurch. which won the race three years in succession; with a new and younger team this year it finished seventh.
