DIESEL TEST
A diesel Mercedes tested by off-duty police drivers for the British Mercedes agents has averaged 8.93 litres/100 km. (31.6 m.p.g.) during a 24-hour test drive of 1046 km., half of the distance in city traffic, and all in rain. The car averaged 47.6 km./h. thanks to the motorway half of the route —in the rush hour traffic, the average speed dropped as low as 21 km./h. The company had hoped to obtain a fuel consumption of 7.83 litres/lOOkm., which at present diesel prices would have meant 96.6 km. to the £.
