FLOCK TO BE DISPERSED
The Hampshire flock owned jointly by the Cottons of Carrington Park. New South Wales. Australia, and the Craigntore Farming Company, of Craigmore. Maungati. South Canterbury, is to be dispersed at a sale in Timaru on June 23.
In a statement issued from Craigmore, where the flock is based, it is stated that this action has been made necessary because Senator Cotton is now al senior Minister in the Australian Federal Government)
and he and Mrs Cotton do not have the time they would wish to devote to the partnership and Hampshire breed affairs, and the Craigmore Farming Company is also being restructured because of the withdrawal from farming of one of the partners. The partnership flock was founded as Flock 29 in the Flock Book of the New Zealand Sheepbreeders' Association in 1965. Large numbers of ewes and stud sires were imported from the Carrington Park stud between 1966 and 1971.
The partnership has had its own sale for the last six years. In 1971 the flock reached a peak with 658 registered ewes going to the ram. but at present it totals 330 Last year it showed the champion ram and ewe at the Christchurch show and also the top shorn ram hogget for the third year in succession. In the last two years it has also won the P. Stewart Tory Cup for the most points in the Hampshire classes at Christchurch.
