‘Leftist bid to overthrow free society in U.S.’

(N.2.P.A -Reuter —Copyright) WASHINGTON, May 6. A United States Senate subcommittee report says that a group of revolutionary Leftists have used the celebrations of America’s bicentenary this year as a cover for plans to overthrow the country’s free society.

The commission, working on a budget of a few hundred thousand dollars, has been more successful in reaching schools, churches, and the news media than the Government’s official American Revolutionary Bicentennial Administration, which has an annual budget of slom, the report says.

The report that the People’s Bicentennial Commission has gained widespread acceptance by camouflaging its real goals, which were to exploit the anniversary celebrations for their own revolutionary ends. The Senate document, entitled “The Attempt to Steal the Bicentennial.” has been released by the Senate Internal Security Sub-committee, a panel specialising in investigating Leftist organisa-

tions. It is presided over by a Conservative Democrat Senator James Eastland.

The report says that the P.B.C. has sent 8000 cas-sette-recordings to the wives of business executives, describing business scandals and “calling upon the wives, in effect, to cross-examine their husbands about any criminal and subversive policies in which they might be involved.” “The P.B.C. has also offered rewards to executive’s secretaries for information leading to the successful prosecution of their bosses, and has announced plans for a mass demonstration in Washington on July 4,” the report says.

In an introduction to the document, Senator Eastland describes the P.B.C.’s activities as a deception and a fraud calling itself “a citizens’ organisation dedicated to restoring the democratic principles that shaped the birth of the United States.”
