Col. Clarrie wins easily

The former West Melton two-year-old, Colonel Clarrie, which changed hands at a big price a few months ago, won the $3OOO Golden Slipper Stakes at Albion Park, Brisbane, last month. The True Averil—Lee gelding, second favourite at 7 to 2, created a race record for the 2110 m, with a mile rate of 2:7.9. almost one second better than the previous best. Colonel Clarrie Is raced by Mr Bob Gills and is trained by Mrs Marilyn Belford, whose husband, Rod, drove him in his win.
