Gubay writ withdrawn
GV.Z. Press Association) AUCKLAND, May 5. The $5 million writ brought against Mr Albert Gubay by his wife in September of last year has been withdrawn. In a joint statement today, Mr M. L. Curtis, solicitor for Mrs Gubay, and Mr P. Blanchard, solicitor for Mr Gubay, said the couple’s financial differences had been settled to the satisfaction of both parties. “Mr Gubay and his wife
separated in December, 1974, and on February 12, 1975 an agreement was’ entered into for the division of the joint fortune,” said the statement. “It was when there were certain delays in implementing part of that agreement that Mrs Gubay issued proceedings in the Supreme Court. “It is now recognised that these delays were not the fault of either party, and the agreement of February has been fully implemented and the proceedings will be withdrawn,” said the statement. It is believed that the agreement involves a $7,600,000 debenture for 19 years in assets controlled by Mr Gubay in England and New Zealand. Mr Gubay was in New Zealand at the end of last month, when he volunteered to appear on television and a radio talk-back programme. He is believed to be starting a supermarket chain in America, similar to the 3 Guys chain of discount stores he started in New Zealand. Mrs Gubay has settled in Auckland.
