Maori land protest
(N.Z. Press Assoctn'ton) HAMILTON. About 200 Maoris staked their claim to more than 100 acres of ancestral land at a peaceful demonstration at the Raglan golf course on Sunday. Led by Tainui tribal elders and Te Matakite O Aotearoa followers. the protesters marched on to the golf course without resistance, and staked out. part of the disputed land. The Tainui people at Raglan say the land was taken under war emergency regulations, and was not returned to them despite what they say was a promise to do so. After the protesl the march returned to the ' Tainui Awhiro marae to continue the week-end regional conference lof Te Matakite. I The group's chairman. Dr ID. I. Sinclair, of Hamilton, said the protest was a plea I for a diplomatic settlement lof the land problem.
