Record for Nat. Mutual

New sums assured with the National Mutual Life Association rose 32 per cent to a record $474.1m in the year to September 30. During the year, the business gained 21.8 per cent of total new premiums paid to all life offices in New Zealand, as against 15.9 per cent for the 1973-74 year. New annual premiums rose 55 per cent to $9.4m. The substantial increase in superannuation business had played an important part in the production of these figures.

During the year, National Mutual had invested $40.4m in New Zealand, bringing its total life assurance assets in New Zealand to $312.2m. Payments of benefits to policyholders and beneficiaries had totalled $22.2m, compared with $17.9m the previous year.

Bonus distribution, including both annual bonuses and terminal bonuses, had reached a record total of $27.8m.
