Leaders firm: trading quiet
Leading mining and industrial shares closed on a firmer note in quiet trading on the Melbourne Stock Exchange yesterday. On the mining boards, M.I.M. picked up 3c at 270 c and Hamersley. Robe River, Bougainville, BH South and A. M.S. rose a marginal point each. Woodside Burmah put on 2c at 94c, but C.R.A. closed with a 4c loss at 286 c. Uraniums were easier. Among the industrials, B. gained 6c at 746 c and EZ Industries advanced 5c to 375 c. Hooker stood out with a similar gain at 115 c, and Woolworths, the 8.N.5.W., C.U.B. and CSR firmed. Philip Morris regained the 900 c mark after a 10c rise, but the National Bank and Myers fell back. Other major stock exchanges in Australia were closed yesterday, because of Anzac Day.
