Trampers flown out
(N 7.. Press Association) ■ HAMILTON, April 26. A tramping party was airlifted out of the Kaimai Ranges yesterday by Air Force helicopter after a 62-year-old party member was [injured in a fall. Mr D. H. Maxwell was with a party of 10 that went, ■into the bush on the eastern side of the ranges early on 'Saturday. They were due to come ■out on the Matamata side that evening but Mr [Maxwell fell down a 10 ■ metre bank and was injured ‘on the back and ribs.
[ The police at Matamata! (were informed of the acci- , dent late on Saturday and a I three-man tramping group went into the bush from! : Matamata early yesterday ’ morning. Mr Maxwell could not be moved and an Air Force helicopter from Hobsonville ■ was. sent to lift him from the bush. The helicopter ar-, rived about 11.40 a.m. and : carried Mr Maxwell to Tauiranga Hospital. The other members of the party were also lifted out and the operation was completed by 3 p.m. i Mr Maxwell was in a satis. factory condition in hos- ■ pital today.

Queenstown, after; suffering exhaustion on Sat-1 urday, has been discharged from the hospital. Mr Newby was tramping j j with his son-in-law when he became exhausted and was unable to carry on. The police at Queenstown were alerted and a helicop-; ter was sent from the town ! about 9.30 a.m. and airlifted [the man to the hospital. He was discharged yester-] iday. 1
