Drugs ignored
The California police have almost given up arresting people found carrying marijuana, state narcotics officers have admitted. A new law, in effect since January, has reduced the penalty for being caught with one ounce or less or marijuana to a SUSIOO fine. Possession of any amount had previously meant a possible prison term. In Los Angeles, where the monthly average of arrests for possessing the drug had been 1100, there were 197 such arrests in January. — Los Angeles.
