Games cost inquiry

(N.Z.P. A. Reuter —Copyright) MONTREAL. The Quebec premier (Mr Robert Bourassa) says a Parliamentary inquiry will be held into the huge costs of the 1976 Olympics soon after the 16-dav international sports extravaganza ends on August 1. The original budget for the games was SUS3IOm and organisers had said the Olympics would be self financing. The cost is now estimated at sl3oom with a projected deficit of some SUS9OOm. The Parliamentary commission will not be empowered to lay criminal charges, but will “convey to the public who was responsible for the cost structure getting so far out of hand.” The Quebec Justice Department will have to decide, on the basis of the commission’s report, whether to lay any criminal charges.
