Triumph for Hanafi
Winning the Feltex Television Award for the best series of 1975 was a personal triumph for Christchurch’s Hanafi Hayes, the man behind “One Man’s View." The irony of the success was that it was the only first placing for TV2, the channel which turned down an offer from Hayes for a second series. “One Man’s View,” first among 19 entries, was judged better than “Close to Home,” and “Country Calendar," a number of programmes from which have recently been sold overseas by TVI. Hanafi Hayes has formed an independent company and is soon to begin production on a series for TVI. He did not go to Wellington to collect his award. The programme manager for TV2 in Christchurch, Rod Cornelius, was, however, there. He was halfway to the rostrum to collect the award on Hayes* behalf, but some-one boobed and the show went on. Cornelius has been closely associated with Hayes for years. He was executive producer In Auckland In N2JB.C. days, when Hanafi was a producer. One result of this association was the decision to produce “One Man’s View” out of Christchurch last year.
