Letters 'a mistake '

(N.I. Press Association) WELLINGTON. Letters ordering the Society for the Intellectually Handicapped to stop building community homes and workshops were a mistake, according to the Minister of Health (Mr Oill). The letters, sent to society branches, said: "In view of the Government’s restraint on expenditure, projects nb longer had financial backing." However, Mr Gil! on Friday had told a delegation from the society that the Government had never intended that the community projects be stopped, said the society's national secretary (Mr R. G. Mathews). The letters had been a result of a misinterpretation of a Health Department circular, Mr Gil! had said. Projects should continue, he had said, and he would see that the misunderstanding was cleared up. National intended to continue with the community projects started by Labour. Rugby league.—The Kiwi, and former Aucklander, Warren Colllcoat, kicked 11 points in his debut match in the senior rugby league competition in Wellington.
