‘No merger’ by Lockheed

(N.Z.P. A.Reuter—Copyright) BURBANK (California), April 12.

The Lockheed Aircraft Corporation said yesterday it had no intention of breaking up or going into a merger. The affirmation came in a statement by Lockheed’s chairman (Mr R. Haack) denying a newspaper report of a serious split among the company’s bank creditors on its future.

A Lockheed spokesman said Mr Haack’s comments were prompted by a report in the “Wall Street Journal” last week which quoted sources as saying that a “furious battle” had developed among the company’s lending banks about Lockheed’s future. Mr Haack said the attitude of the consortium of 24 banks towards Lockheed was “positive and constructive.” He said that Lockheed expected to complete successfully a financial restructuring plan with the banks in the near future.
