New rugby award to Thompson
Dave Thompson, the Belfast and Canterbury lock, is the first winner of the “Player of the Day” award for senior rugby. Thompson was singled out for his fine performance against Christchurch at Rugby Park by the president of the Canterbury Rugby Union (Mr C. H. J. Rhodes).! The award, which is sponsored by Fletcher Humphreys and Co., Ltd, will be given to the top player in the main senior match each Saturday, and will also extend to 'mid-week and Saturday representative games in Christchurch.
