Old motor race to Gurney
<X.Z. Press Assn — Cop«rtpht> LONG BEACH (California). Dan Gurney, of California, one of America’s most popular motor-racing drivers in history, piloted a 16-year-old B.R.M. to an easy victory in the antique Formula One car exhibition race through the streets of Long Beach. United Press International reported. Gurney claimed it was only the third time in his career that he had finished a race in a B.R.M. He was a factory driver for British Racing Motors in 1960 and won a race in Australia and finished second in Argentina in cars identical to the one he raced here. | Second was the two-time I world driving champion. Jack (Brabham of Australia, tn a 1959 Cooper, one of the (original rear-engined cars (and the one in which he won his first world title. Third was five-times world champion, Juan Fangio, 64, of Argentina, in his famed 1955 Mercedes Benz W196.
The only other driver to complete all seven laps was the former world champion, Denis Hulme of New Zealand, in a 1957 Cooper.
