Hogan in cycle tour team
The Canterbury cyclist, Chris Hogan, aged 21 next month, will follow in the steps of his older brother, Ray, as a New Zealand cycling representative. Hogan and Steve Cox (West Coast-North Island! were named after the Rothmans national championships to compete in the Tour of New Caledonia, probably in September. The Olympic Games nominees were not considered for the tour —the same event as that in which Ray Hogan won his silver fern, in 1969—but one who must have figured seriously in the considerations was Neil Robinson.
Certainly. Robinson is now 34. but he was one of only nine to finish in the main bunch at the national championships. Also, the experience he has as a regular New Zealand representative of the 1960 s would have stood him in good stead on the rough New Caledonia roads.
Tennis.—The ageless Ken Rosewall of Australia ignored six match points and battled back from a 5-0 deficit in a third set tie-breaker to defeat E. Dibbs (United States) 6-3. 4-6. 7-6 to reach the finals in the World Championship Tennis tournai men in Houston.
