Value for TV licence fee
Sir. — In view of the Government's announced reduction of television transmission hours, I feel that viewers should be entitled to a rebate of television licensing fees. The period of restriction is approximately 143 days, which is very nearly 40 per cent of a year. Although it is generally accepted that we must conserve electrical resources, it is iniquitous to continue to pay the full licence fee for a significantlyreduced service. With the cost of living at its current prohibitive level, watching television is probably the only form of entertainment within the financial reach of a large proportion of the population, and to continue to pay the full price for only half of the service is just not on. — Yours, etc.,
DAVE HINES. April 5, 1976.
