Rag Trade wins Grand National
LONDON. I he bold-striding ten-year-old Rag Trade gave the veteran trainer Fred Rimell his fourth victory tn the English Grand National at Aintree ion Saturday after a battle of survival with the gallant Red Rum Rag Trade at 14 1 pulled away from Red Rum. 10-1. in the last furlong of the four mile and a half mara thon over 30 fence.- to grab victory by two length-. As usual the fearsome fence- claimed mans victim-. Only half the 32-horse field finished the race. But as dumped riders and horses sprawled around both Red Rum and Rag Trade they side-stepped the lot and settled down for a thrilling run home. Red Ruin, trying for a record third win. jumped the last fence in front of Rag Trade with Eyecatcher. 28-1.
