Cyclist beats brother
(N.Z. Press Association) AUCKLAND. The 16-year-old Mount Albert Grammar School student, lan Richards, stole the thunder from his elder brother, Michael, during the week-end by winning the Auckland series of the national junior road cycling league with Imin 25s’ec to spare.
Richards rode away on his own on Saturday morning in the first of three races and won with over a minute in hand. In the afternoon’s event and again yesterday morning, Richards ~ successfully defended his lead in spite of strong attacks from the more favoured competitors.
Michael Richards was in third place over all on the North Island points standings before the event, but when the two riders ahead of him, D. Goodman (Napier) and B. Waters (Levin), failed to start, it detracted a lot of interest from the racing.
