Concern about apathy
Concern about the lack ’ ot support given to the Canterbury School Committees Association was expressed by the executive of the Federation of Canterbury Parent-Teacher As- ' sociations. The federation represents: more than 102 primary, intermediate and secondary - schools. In a statement the executive of the Federation said that all monthly meetings of the School Committee Association were attended by a representative of the federa- ; tton's executive A lack of interest and dedi- > .cation by some school com- ; mittee members yvas also re- ' fleeted in the large number of remits concerning school! 1 committee matters yvhich |j yvere dealt yvith each year at: i the annual conference of the i Parent-Teacher Association. "The Educational Development Conference recommendation suggested that ‘parent, i teacher associations be entitled to elect each year one,; or more representatives to J be an additional member of'school committees yvith full,, voting rights’,” the statenient said. , This yvould encourage; much greater parent participation and stimulate school committee membership. It yvould also encourage more nominations for members of; education boards.
