Mystery envelope appeal

S.ir, — The recent mystery; envelope appeal held by; Christchurch Boys High; School old boys was' wrongly advertised on air as the Piunket Society mystery envelope appeal. After'many "Junket mothers like myself bitterly complained the advertisement was changed a day later but the aprons used by the sellers still had Piunket Society displayed’ much more vividly than the principal benefactor. If my information is correct, a particular branch of the Plunke* Society was approached and asked if it would like to participate in the mystery envelope appeal. It was evidently hoped that $30,000 would be raised and the Piunket branch would be given $5OOO. After the name of a society of which I belong has, in my opinion, been used to push the barrow for another organisation, I would like to know how much was made. I have seen no details published as is usual of street appeals, I stand corrected if I missed any such publication. — Yours, etc., LYNDA SPITTLE. March 25, 1976.

[Mrs N. M. Stewart, president of the Christchurch branch of the Piunket Society, and Mr P. Hames, president of the Christchurch High School Old Boys’ Rugby Club, reply: “The Christchurch High School Old Boys’ Rugby Club and the Christchurch branch of the Piunket Society to whom your correspondent is referring were in complete agreement with the arrangements made for the mystery envelope appeal, this being the second occasion that our organisations have combined in a fund raising campaign. The appeal was successful and will benefit both bodies in furthering their objects. Our obligation in satisfying the requirements of the Internal Affairs Department have been met.”]
