Detoxifying centres
(N.Z.P.A.Reuter —Copyright) LONDON. The British Government has decided to take action to keep • drunks out of gaol, four years after legislation giving it power to do so was passed. Parliament was told that legislation providing for drunken offenders to be sent to detoxification centres instead of prison would be brought into effect next month. However, the first centres are not due to open until May, and the number of places they will offer will be only a fraction of the known need.
