Connors, Tanner into final

(N.Z. Press Assn—Copyright) PALM SPRINGS (California). Top-seeded Jimmy Connors beat the Swedish teen-ager Bjorn Borg 6-1, 6-4 and the lefthander Roscoe Tanner upset the No. 2-seeded Arthur Ashe 6-3, 3-6, 6-4 yesterday in the semi-finals of the $160,000 American Airlines tennis tournament. United Press International reported. The two Americans will meet in the finals today. Tanner’s win eliminated the first show-down between Connors and Ashe since Wimbledon last year, when Ashe defeated Connors. “I am a little disappointed that I’m not playing Arthur tomorrow but Connors. “I’m playing a lot I’ll get my chance,” said of tournaments now and so is Arthur. I’m sure we’ll run into each other sooner or later.”
