The popularity of the Hawarden Show is indicated by another increase in the number of entries this year. The Hawarden Agricultural and Pastoral Association has received a total of 2153 entries, a jump of 333 on last year.
These totals do not include entries in the classes for schoolwork, flowers and vegetables. Gain in support have been made in all but one section. Horse events are again the most popular — 1149 entries have been received as against 1123 last year. There have been 589 (157) entries in the sheep classes and 59 (50) in the wool class.
The dog classes have not proved as popular as in past shows. There are 40 entries this year as again 60. Cat lie entiies have increased slightly from 23 last year to 21 this year. Home produce entries have increased sharply this year, 217 entries having been received over last year’s 196. Photography brought a substantial increase in 196 from 128. and 50 (39) junior cooking entries will be making the judge's mouth water.
Wine-making appears to be growing in popularity with 49 varieties entered. Grain and seed entries have increased from 11 last year to 50.’
