WELLINGTON, March 18. The controversial issue of sports contacts with South Africa was apparently forgotten in Wellingtoday. Labour and National members of Parliament played sport with a South African. So, too, di<j representatives of the Malaysian, Australian, British, French, Indian, and United States embassies and high commissions.
Leading the move were the Leader of the Opposition (Mr Rowling) and the Malaysian High Commissioner (Mr K. Tharmaratnam). Both oppose sports contact with South Africa.
There, too, from the other faction was Mr W. R. Fenton, founder of the organisation, War Against Racial Disruption.
The occasion was the annual cricket match between Parliamentarians and the Diplomatic Corps, whose team included the South African Vice-Consul (information), Mr W. Cook. Mr Rowling, as wicketkeeper, and Mr Tharmaratnam, who top-scored for the diplomats with 100 not out, were the respective captains. The Diplomats (219 runs for four wickets) beat the Parliamentarians (214 runs for six wickets).
